Project STAR has been supported by Regione Toscana, with the aim of developing a laboratory demonstrator of a high efficiency solar concentrator, based on the adaptive optical techniques, already adopted in the most recent astronomical telescopes.

The Consortium which carries out the Project was composed by:
  • National Institute of Applied Optics of the National Research Council (INOA-CNR), Florence
  • Astronomical Observatory of Arcetri of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF), Florence
  • Department of Astronomy and Space Science of the University of Florence
  • Department of Energetics "S. Stecco" of the University of Florence
  • Institute of Biometeorology of the National Research Council (IBIMET-CNR), Florence
  • Ronda High Tech, Zanè (VI)

Project STAR had a total budget of 600.000 €, of which 520.000 € were supplied by Regione Toscana. The Project started on May 8, 2008, and finished on November 27, 2009.

The results of Project STAR were described during a workshop, held on Nov. 26, 2009, in Aula A of the Dep. of Astronomy and Space Science of the University of Florence, Largo E. Fermi 2.You can see a reportage (in italian) on this event.
